The Ultimate Style & Dating Fix Part 1: Take Me Down to the Paradise City – Stepping Up My Dating Game

Paradise City

Well, I wasn’t expecting that…

If you’ve been reading this blog you will know that my life has been pretty eventful this past few years (yeah, that’s one way of putting it).  I don’t think I need to summarise, if you’ve visited before you’ll get the picture; if not, well, take a look around here and then come back to me.

The unexpected benefits of beginning this blog have included the people that it has brought me into contact with and the random things that have happened that wouldn’t have been conceivable back when I first started writing in December.  If you had sat the Matthew of exactly one year ago down in front of this blog he would never have thought that it could have sprung forth from him.

So I guess you could say that a lot of the things that have happened this year have been unexpected; indeed, sometimes it seems that anything could happen on any given day and I can’t think of any other time in my life so full of mystery and possibility.  A life turned upside down can certainly turn out to have its advantages.

Still, I wasn’t expecting that.

It all started rather innocuously, as things often tend to.  I noticed a twitter profile that belonged to ‘a dating savvy alpha female’ and jokingly referred to the fact that maybe I wasn’t quite as dating savvy as I would like to be (errrr, obviously: https://lovelaughtertruthblog.com/2016/05/23/sats-week-the-singles-assessment-test/).  Anyway, after a little back and forth I received a direct message:

“Hello Matthew,

“I’m loving your blog.

“I am just launching a Style and Date Consultancy.  I would love to have you as a guinea pig!  Would you be interested in experiencing my new signature programme ‘The Ultimate Style & Dating Fix’ – complementary of course!  Let me know if you are interested and I will send you more details.”

Hmmmm, let me think about this.

Oh, go on then.

Maybe it’s time to switch up my dating game, maybe as the pupil is ready the master has appeared.

Interest suitably piqued I awaited the further information.

It gets better.

It turns out that the person behind this venture has some serious credentials: she has over 15 years’ experience as an Image Consultant and Personal Shopper and has worked as a stylist for film and television.

The programme that I would be embarking on promises to, amongst other things:

  • Sharpen up your hairstyle and grooming
  • Offer wardrobe advice
  • Develop your own personal style, help you build confidence and attract your ideal woman
  • Create the perfect dating profile
  • Confidence boost with Practice Date and Post-Date Analysis

OK, sign me right up.

My first task is a questionnaire to provide some background ahead of our first Skype consultation.  Sounds straightforward.

“How would you describe your personal style?”

Errrrrrmmmm.

“What do you think works for you in your current style?”

Errrrrrrmmmmmmmm.

“Do you have a wardrobe style for dating?”

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmm.  I have a couple of Hugo Boss tops?

Maybe they do things differently in London.  Or maybe I’m just clueless.

You can only do your best can’t you?  So, I do just that and promptly send my responses.  Next task is to send my dating profiles over and set up an initial Skype consultation.  Apparently I have ‘lots of potential’.  Which I guess could be a euphemism for ‘low benchmark’ but best to stay positive…

So, the consultation.  I’m guessing you haven’t had one of these before so let me give you a brief summary of the 90 minute session (I’m wearing the black shorts):

OK, I exaggerate, it wasn’t that bad.  Actually it was pretty good.

Really good.

And very instructive.  In short, my dating profiles are generic and boring (a surprise as she thought the one thing she wouldn’t have to advise me on is how to write well; oops) and I completely undersell myself.  Which I guess is a positive that gives me plenty to work on.

And get to work we will, as we pull apart my dating profiles, rebrand Matty and launch Matty V2.0.

Easy now ladies….
