We Will Build A Wall

img_1146

We will build a wall,
To protect what we hold dear;
Build it high and build it strong,
Keep at bay that which we fear.

The wall will hide our weaknesses,
Keep us safe from cruel attacks,
From the enemies without that would do us harm,
Stab us in our back.

The wall will be our fortress,
A refuge for those precious things,
That define us, make us who we are,
And camouflage what we hide within.

Walls are built, day upon day,
Around hearts that are broken and bruised;
But what does it cost, the protection they offer?
When your wall makes a prisoner of you.
